Political

A life-long Republican, Lorraine Green took office as District 1 Commissioner in January, 2005. Prior to her election, she served as vice-chairman of the Gwinnett County Planning Commission and as a member of the Water and Sewer Authority. Lorraine became involved in local government following years as a ‘homeowner activist’ focusing on rezonings in her area.

Lorraine was awarded the 'Hero of Open Government Award' in 2006 by the Atlanta Journal & Constitution for her initiatives to foster a more open government in Gwinnett County.  She was also awarded the Community Relations Award in 2006 by the Gwinnett Convention and Visitor's Bureau for her work supporting the tourism and hospitality industries in Gwinnett.

Lorraine serves of several committees for the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia.  She also serves vice-chair of the Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors.

She is a graduate of Leadership Gwinnett Class of 2003 and the Regional Leadership Class of 2006.  

Business

Lorraine is an environmental engineer, acting as the president of her own engineering consulting firm. Her firm specializes in providing corrosion engineering services to the aviation and fueling industries.  Her firm has worked in all 50 states and numerous foreign countries.  Her firm is currently providing sub-consulting services to US firms aiding in the military reconstruction in Afganistan.

She is a graduate of Georgia Tech, with a master's degree in Environmental Engineering and a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. She is a registered Professional Engineer in numerous states.  She is also past-president of the local chapter of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers.

Personal & Community

Lorraine and her husband, Bob, have been married for over twenty four years.  They met during college at Ga Tech and got married a week after graduation.  They live in Lawrenceville with their two sons, both of whom are avid hockey players. 

The Green family worships at St. Monica’s Catholic Church.

Lorraine is a member of the Board of Directors for the Peachtree Ridge School Foundation. Lorraine is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Foster Children’s Foundation.
