Candidate for Chairman Lorraine Green Proposes "Sweeping Tax Relief Plan"
Calls for Eliminating Property Taxes for the Gwinnett Homeowners by creating 100% Homestead Exemption, Replacing with Homestead Option Sales Tax. Commissioner Lorraine Green Monday released a sweeping tax relief plan for homeowners that she called "decisive and crucial" for Gwinnett County's future. The proposal was released at a press conference held at the Historic Courthouse in Lawrenceville. Green's plan will create a 100% homestead exemption for homeowners, thus exempting homeowners from paying property taxes to fund county government. "My proposal is the most sweeping tax relief plan ever proposed in our county's history," said Lorraine Green. Green's plan would implement the Homestead Option Sale Tax for Gwinnett County, also known as "HOST". The plan must first be approved by voters. The plan replaces property taxes with a 1% sales tax:
